History of the Circuit
The West Durham Methodist Circuit was formed in 2006 through the amalgamation of three former circuits:
- Crook & Willington Circuit
- Spennymoor & Ferryhill Circuit
- Weardale Circuit
Methodism has a long and rich history across West Durham and the North East of England, particularly within mining communities and rural towns and villages where chapels became centres of worship, education and community life.
Today the circuit continues that tradition by supporting churches across a wide geographical area stretching from upper Weardale to Sedgefield.
Our churches reflect both the heritage of Methodism and the continuing life of faith and service within local communities.
